Morning Routine

In the morning, when you wake up, shivering, come down and clean fireplace up, bring coke down from cellar, lit fire and make tea, then warm up. It very, very, very changed these days. In those days W.C. were not inside, toilets were outside. If it's snowing, big piles of snow, you still had to go outside. Now these days, you sleep in this room and the next room bathroom and shower. Those days you have a big tub down cellar, warm up the water and have a bath.

Those days I was working myself, they were about twelve hour shifts, early morning I have to wake up half past five and before I set off to work I have a tea, make a sandwich, then leave round about half an hour early and work from 7 till 7. No buses. Walk to work, go to work 12 hour then back again to same routine. Clean fireplace up, then put coal inside, warm it up, make a dinner then go to sleep. More difficult in those days than today. Today nobody have any sort of problem if they want a shower, own house, but those days you had to go down half a mile and get a bath.
